Just wanted to take a break from editing to pass out a novel website I came across (pun intended).
Paperbackswap is a website that allows users to trade books for the cost of postage. You send a book out, they mark it received, you get a credit to order a book from another user, who then has to pay postage to get it to you. As a writer and bibliophile, I believe no book should go unread, and this is a great way to send off those old ones you've read hundreds of time. Share the joy, people! If I ever were to get famous, man oh man, I'd be using this site to send off stuff just for the heck of it.
Anyhow, back to the grindstone.

My sister does something like this in Kansas City. She never buys books (boo!) but someone does (yippee!)
Jamie- I think, like a lot of people, most folks on that site buy books. As a matter of fact, sometimes I don't want to wait to read something. However, even as a hack, I can appreciate some folks not being able to afford to get a book they want. Inasmuch as I would love to one day sell a novel (never gonna happen) or at least a short story collection (possible, but only if I become as prolific as Cate and as well known as Lovecraft), I still support the sharing of books. As I told my wife:
I write to be read. If that means some people read my books then give them away, more power to them. I'd rather my works be read by as many people as possible.
That said, I'm still waiting on some Clive Barker...but hey, I've got my own stuff to write.
Cool idea. I'll ahve to check it out. I buy books when I can, but if things are tight, or I just can't find a book, this would definitely be nice way to get some, and to get rid ofthe thosuands clogging up my house.
That's a great idea...I have tons of books that my wife is always nagging me to get rid of, that sounds like a good compromise between clearing bookshelf space and getting new stuff in. Thanks for the link.
Followup: I'm setting up an account, and there is a referral section. Not sure if you get extra trade credits, but do you want to provide your username so I can credit you as a referral?
Username there is my email..jctabler@gravesidetales.com
